Men’s wishes

Frank has headaches every day. His eyebrows are so low that it is diffi cult for him to keep his eyes open. A brow lift would take care of his problem. Should he have this intervention done or not? Vincent has had enough of that deep groove between his nose and mouth. He doesn’t like the way it makes him look older than he really is. Filler injection is the solution. Should he have this intervention done or not? Chances are that you immediately answered ‘yes’ when reading about Frank. But what about Vincent? Should he have the intervention done too? In practice, the fact of the matter is that I often notice that men find it easier to come to a private clinic if they have a functional problem. Personally, I think that’s a shame, but I expect it will change with time. Cosmetic interventions are becoming more and more common for men too.

Men often have similar facial wishes as women do: correction of sagging upper eyelids or eye bags, nose corrections, fi lling in of facial lines, Botox for forehead wrinkles or a facelift. But when it comes to their bodies, men actually have very different wishes. For instance, too much body hair is seen as a problem by many men. It is easy for us to take care of that using laser dehairing. We also regularly see men at our liposuction consultation, often because of ‘love handles’ around the waist. After all, it isn’t easy to get rid of those ‘love handles’ through exercise or dieting. There are also men that have too much fat on their chest. This condition is called gynaecomastica (breast formation in men) and is easily dealt with using liposuction.

Returning to the gentlemen in my example:
Frank decided to have a brow lift and Vincent had his nasal labial folds fi lled at our practice. Even though the motivations of these men to have the interventions done were very different, the effect of their treatment is similar - they’re both much more at ease with themselves. Isn’t that wonderful?
